Regular physical activity is essential for physical and mental health, yet a large proportion of people do not meet recommended activity levels. Enjoyment plays a key role in maintaining physical activity, but it remains unclear how momentary feelings and individual differences in effort valuation influence how enjoyable exercise is remembered to be.

This thesis investigates whether brief changes in affect shape recalled enjoyment of physical activity, and whether this depends on how individuals evaluate physical effort. In an online study, participants were exposed to positive, neutral, or negative exercise scenarios and reported their affect and recalled enjoyment of recent activity.

By clarifying how affect and effort valuation relate to remembered exercise enjoyment, this research provides insights for future research and interventions that help people enjoy and sustain physical activity.
