Last modified on 18-03-2026 12:46
How can we remain in dialogue even when we disagree? During this edition of the Platform for Different Perspectives, we've invide 'Deel de Duif' to be our guest speakers. They regularly appear in the media with their inspiring stories of how, as young people from Muslim and Jewish backgrounds, they deal with the increasing tensions in our society.

During this edition of the Platform for Different Perspectives, we'll discuss how the situation in the Middle East affects us here in the Netherlands, or at our university in particular.

This event is in Dutch.

Programme

16.40-16.55: Walk-in
16.55-17.00: Welcome
17.00-17.40: Guest speakers 'Deel de Duif' tell their story
17.40-17.50: Break
17.50-19.00: Dialogue and drinks

The evening will begin with the inspiring story of Oumaima and Boaz from 'Deel de Duif', who will reflect on the increasing tensions in our society from their Islamic and Jewish perspectives. They'll talk about how they stay in dialogue with each other, especially when their opinion differ significantly.

After the opening words, participants will take part in small group discussions. Using propositions and discussion questions, students will explore different perspectives and experiences. The aim isn't to win the discussion, but to better understand where others are coming from, promote mutual understanding and question your own views.

About the Platform for Different Perspectives

The Platform for Different Perspectives is an initiative that aims to create space for different voices and mutual understanding within the university community. By bringing students into dialogue with each other in a low-key way, the platform aims to show that it's possible to fundamentally disagree and still speak to each other respectfully. This broader movement at the UvA was set up by student assessor Willem Volker in collaboration with concerned students.
