In June 2025, the Faculty Diversity Office (FDO) of the FGw organised a small workshop for lecturers on the question, ‘What do we talk about when we talk about decolonising?’ Three speakers addressed related questions such as ‘What is colonial education?’ and ‘What would decolonising mean for the faculty?’ One of the key outcomes was a clear need for a broader conversation, one that also includes students.

In response, and as part of the FDO’s broader project to map, make visible and connect decolonial initiatives in teaching across the faculty, they are now organising a workshop for staff and students on decolonial perspectives and pedagogies.

Robin de Bruin and Sudha Rajagopalan will each provide brief reflections on the significance of teaching decolonial perspectives within the faculty. Asli Özgen-Havekotte will share her experiences in developing and applying decolonial pedagogies. The ideas and experiences presented will then be discussed by small-group discussions, followed by a concluding plenary dicussion.

The workshop will be held in Dutch and English. Registration is limited to 40 participants.
