Roeterseiland Campus, building B, Room B 2.11
This workshop will help you understand the basics of Python, and prepare you to use any method that your field may require. It will not go over any specific methods but rather give you the tools to process data and allow you to use your field specific methods in any circumstance.
It will provide you with an environment that can be setup in less than 5 minutes on any device, which will give you a quick start to any new project without any odd issues or errors. The material will be taught through interactive examples and practical exercises that you can take home as reference material. This enables the creation of a workflow where you can alter your data processing to fit any circumstance and give you the knowledge to make any necessary changes to method itself.
The primary focus is on the tools needed to load, manage, manipulate, and visualize data. It won’t assume any prior knowledge of Python, but it will quickly cover the basics as the goal is to understand rather than to memorize Python code. With the basics, we’ll transition to showcase libraries such as pandas, and matplotlib, which allow you to conveniently manage and visualize your data. Having learned these tools, you will now be prepared to properly utilize any digital method.
Word embeddings are a powerful technique from computational linguistics, where words are represented as vectors of numbers. These vectors capture the meaning and relationships of words based on the context in which they appear. This enables you to gain a deeper understanding of language and how you can use computers to process this information.
Please bring your laptop, and install Python and PyCharm. However, we will also cover the installation during the workshop.
