In today’s digital landscape, pornography is more accessible than ever, raising concerns about excessive, compulsive use known as Problematic Pornography Use (PPU). Why do some people, especially men, develop these behaviors while others don’t? This study explored how ADHD symptoms and problematic social media use (PSMU) may contribute to the development of PPU. Drawing on behavioral addiction theory and incentive sensitization, the study examined whether individuals with ADHD traits, who are more drawn to instant gratification, are at higher risk of escalating digital behaviors, especially in the presence of algorithm-driven sexual content on social media. This research also investigated whether the ADHD–PPU link is stronger for men and how PSMU may act as a key stepping stone in this pathway.
