Objective: Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a neurodegenerative disorder often caused by mutations in the C9orf72, MAPT, or GRN genes, with subtle cognitive changes emerging in the presymptomatic stage. Traditional neuropsychological tests failed to identify these subtle changes, highlighting the need for more sensitive assessments. The Ignite app was developed to address this limitation, and the present study evaluated the concurrent validity, test-retest reliability and user experience of the Dutch version of the Ignite app. Method: A sample of 60 healthy controls, aged between 20-73, completed the Ignite app and the app’s gold-standard pen-and-paper neuropsychological counterparts to determine the concurrent validity of the app. Seven days after the first completion of the app, participants were asked to complete the app again and fill out the User Experience Questionnaire. The concurrent validity was assessed through Pearson and Spearman correlations, and intraclass correlations (ICC) were calculated for the test-retest reliability. Results: 75% of the Ignite tests significantly correlated with their pen-and-paper counterparts (r = 0.267 - 0.619, p < .05), with the exception for the Balloon Fair (executive function and processing speed), Card Sort (executive function and information processing speed), and Face Match (social cognition) tests. Ignite tests demonstrated poor to excellent reliability (ICC = 0.200 – 0.949). The tests with poor reliability were the Think Back Level 2 average reaction time and SAT score (executive function and processing speed), Balloon Fair (executive function and processing speed), Face Match total correct (social cognition) and Memory Watch Level 1(episodic memory). The majority of the participants rated the app as favorable compared to the pen-and-paper tests. Discussion: This study demonstrated favorable usability, good concurrent validity and test-retest reliability except for some specific tests. A closer look is needed with a more diverse and heterogenous sample to ensure Ignite can be used in the clinical field.
