Building on its solid performance of recent years, the University of Amsterdam (UvA) has risen to the 77th spot on the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2014-2015. Last year, the UvA was ranked at 83rd.

THE World University Ranking

The THE Word University Rankings is based on 13 distinct performance indicators, divided into five broad categories: teaching, research, citation impact, international outlook and private sector research funding.

In addition to the World University Rankings, THE has also published its Rankings by Subject, which sees Clinical, Pre-Clinical & Health at the UvA rise sharply (from 64th to 47th spot), while Arts & Humanities (from 41 to 45) and Social Sciences (from 34 to 36) drop down a few places.

A total of six Dutch universities are listed in the top 100 of the THE World University Rankings, of which Leiden University is the highest ranked at 64th. This year’s rankings, which are traditionally dominated by American and British universities, is headed by California Institute of Technology (Caltech, U.S.), followed by Harvard University (U.S.) and the University of Oxford (UK) in second and third place respectively.
