Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FMG) dean Agneta Fischer will be attending the Real Opening of the Academic Year in Leiden with her colleague Fred Weerman from the Faculty of Humanities. Organised by WOinActie, a national movement of students and employees, the event is an opening in protest against the budget cuts to be implemented in scientific teaching and research.

FMG dean Agneta Fischer: 'What I want to know is, “What has gotten into the Minister?”’

‘I'll be there to affirm my solidarity with WOinActie. One of our professors, Giselinde Kuipers, will also be speaking there,’ says Fischer. ‘As far as I'm concerned, the additional budget cuts in higher education and the Van Rijn Committee's plans are unacceptable. What I want to know is, “What has gotten into the Minister?”’

Fischer will therefore not be attending the UvA's Opening of the Academic Year. ‘I think that's a real pity, particularly because our Professor Amade M’charek will play a key role there, but she said she understands why we are going to be in Leiden.’
