My name is Iris van Urk and I’ve just started in my role as Study Adviser and Programme Manager for the three Master programmes in Human Geography, Urban and Regional Planning and Urban Studies.
I was born and raised in Enschede, the Netherlands, but I’ve lived abroad three times: in Budapest for an Erasmus semester during my undergrad, in Cape Town for an Honors program in anthropology and non-profit work, and in Athens for my Master’s research on the European refugee crisis. I graduated with a Master in Social and Cultural Anthropology in 2017 from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Over the past two years I’ve worked as a Program Coordinator at the Council on International Educational Exchange in Amsterdam. In this role, I advised mainly American exchange students and designed short term study programs on topics such as migration, diversity and inclusion and gender equality. Besides energizing this position at the University of Amsterdam, I am passionately working with the Dutch Women’s Council to build a young feminist network in the Netherlands. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your studies feel free to reach out to me. I am looking forward to meeting you face to face in a post-corona world.
