Dutch student loan system

Students under age 30 may be eligible for a tuition fee loan from the Dutch government. Eligibility depends on your studies, nationality or residency status, as well as your age.

Financial aid in the Netherlands is known as studiefinanciering or student finance. It has 4 components: a regular loan, a student travel product, a supplementary grant and a tuition fee loan. Depending on your age, studies, nationality or residency status, you may be eligible for a tuition fee loan. For details, please see the government website DUO:

Please note: In 2015, the Dutch student finance bill replaced the old system of grants and loans and applies to all students who started their Bachelor’s or Master’s degree on, or after, 1 September 2015.
