The programme prepares you for a wide range of careers in theatre and performance: from scholarly research, arts administration and theatre in education to archival work and cultural programming. 

The job market

Graduates of the Master's in Theatre Studies are qualified to pursue a career in diverse areas, including theatre or theatre criticism, government institutions, cultural organisations, archives, museums and international festivals. Many of our students become closely associated with the theatre world during their studies, thereby acquiring vital experience and connections that help them to establish themselves professionally.

An academic career

The programme is also suited to students interested in pursuing an academic or research-oriented career. Those interested in pursuing a PhD are supported in developing a research topic throughout the course of their Master's studies, gaining experience in publishing in academic journals as well as attending and organising symposia. Close supervision is provided by faculty members in accordance with their area of expertise. The department also boasts of a range of international contacts and is affiliated with international research networks such as the International Federation for Theatre Research and Performance Studies international.
