Dear student, Following the information from the Board of Directors about the Coronavirus, I can imagine many of you have questions with regards to its impact on the education activities here at the Faculty of Science.

The measures taken by the Cabinet and the UvA ask a lot of all of us. I understand if you have concerns about your study progress; we are doing everything we can to minimize the impact on your education, both in the short- and long term. In addition, you might be worried about the consequences of the Coronavirus on yourself or vulnerable people in your circle. Please know that I empathise and would like to thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Information about your courses will be communicated via your study programme. Please pay attention to information you receive in Canvas as well as your email inbox. Updates that apply to all students and staff at the University of Amsterdam are shared on the website uva.nl/coronavirus. For questions about the Coronavirus, please send an email to coronaquestions@uva.nl

At the Faculty of Science, the situation is as follows:

  • Locations of the Faculty of Science at Amsterdam Science Park remain open during the regular opening hours, until further notice.
  • The library and study centre will be closed
  • The ESC desk will be open during limited opening hours: between 10:00 and 12:00
  • The cafeteria and coffee bar (‘Koffiebazen’) will be closed from today until 31 March
  • Study advisers will remain available, but contact should preferably take place online or by telephone
  • Internships within the Faculty of Science will also proceed, provided supervision and safety can be ensured. Should this not be the case, you will be informed by your project supervisor. For internships outside the Faculty of Science, the UvA guidelines apply. Please check uva.nl/coronavirus for the most recent information.

Kind regards,

Peter van Tienderen

Dean of the Faculty of Science
