This page provides an overview on which parties run for the FGw Faculty Student Council (FSR) and what their views are.

TOF

As the biggest and the only decentralised party at the Faculty of Humanities, TOF stands for:

  • A decentralised University of Amsterdam, where decisions are made on the lowest possible level.
  • A more diverse Faculty of Humanities, where every student feels at home and where there is a place for diversity in the curriculum.
  • Strong Programme Committees that are involved in shaping the curriculum at an early stage.
  • A faculty with education of the highest quality, in which the intrinsic value of the humanities is safeguarded.
  • A more sustainable faculty, where there is attention for the environment.
  • A faculty where the importance of democracy is acknowledged: where dialogue triumphs and the Student Council and Programme Committees are heard.

De Vrije Student

In our party, the freedom of the student is essential. For the tuition fee, it should be possible that you can expand your knowledge to the utmost level and have the best education possible. By focusing on digitalization, a lower binding study advice (BSA) and flexibilization of studies, we thrive to realize this vision. Our party ensures an accessible university, where every student can develop him- or herself. We want to create space for your own completion and generate personal attention.

  • Digitalization: online lectures, online readers and following your courses on the internet.
  • Reasonable food prices: the current canteen prices do not match the average student's financial situation. The price for a basic sandwich quickly reaches four or five euros.
  • Flexibilization: paying per course for students who don’t follow a full-time study. Personal development next to your study is important. Flexible studying is the solution for this.
  • Pro-diversity, against quota: we want a diverse university in multiple ways - also in terms of politics - but we are opposed to positive discrimination. The current diversity policy is nothing more than symptom control. This money can be spent in better ways e.g. improving the quality of education.
  • Less growth, more quality: According to the 'Keuzegids Universiteiten 2019' the master-studies at the UvA score below average in comparison to other masters offered in the Netherlands. Amongst others, we believe that the growing number of students lead to lower quality of our education.
  • Flexible BSA: the binding study advice (BSA) should be lower. There should be more space for your own choice of courses and extracurricular activities. A high BSA inhibits the personal development of students.

Red UvA

Red UvA is the only party that has an outspoken activist attitude. This way we distinguish ourselves strongly from other parties. Do you still believe in the say of student councils after all the stories about burn-outs, docile council members and the lack of power? Then you should not vote for Red UvA. Do you believe in solidarity between faculties in the struggle against thinking in terms of efficiency and do you trust people with experience who actually know what they are talking about? Then Red UvA is worth your vote. We will not be a part of the five-day long addressing of whichever student may come through the door, but instead organise and attend actions, digitally offer information about the party and answer questions. Just like we did last year.

Red UvA will not actively take part in the student council. When members of the party attain seats, then we will give the money coming with those seats to action groups at the university and refugee organisations. We do this because we think the money is better spent this way than on the non-say of formal student representation. Moreover, we think that you can currently achieve more with actions than with council activities. We will therefore not cease to exist after the elections. We will keep fighting for a better university.
