Of the four UvA finalists, Priscilla Maria and Marwa Ahmed were the two to win an ECHO Award 2020. Every year, the ECHO Award is presented to outstanding students from non-western backgrounds who actively demonstrate social involvement. This year, the award ceremony took place on 8 December 2020 through a live stream that was broadcasted from Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam. Priscilla Maria, Master's student in Medicine, won the ECHO Award WO. Marwa Ahmed, Master's student in Biomedical Sciences, won the Science & Technology Award.

University of Amsterdam students and staff have been speaking out against racism and have joined the protests and manifestations last week. The Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) team is asking the UvA community not to stay silent. Silence condones. Police brutality and anti-Black violence cannot be tolerated.
The Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) team invites UvA students and staff for five Diversity & Inclusion lunches. Everybody is welcome, though we especially invite those who are committed to working in cultural change, inclusion, equity, decolonization and awareness around diversity-related topics. We would like to gather the knowledge and strengths of students and staff, and find ways in which we can empower and support each other in the process of cultural change at the UvA.
During the European Action Week against Racism (16-21 March), the SeSi Community Center of the AUAS (HvA) and the Chief Diversity Officer team of the UvA, will join forces to organise a week with various guest lectures and workshops. The programme is open to students and staff of the UvA and the AUAS as well as others who are interested.
The people who work and study at the Roeterseiland complex represent a diverse medley of backgrounds and life stories. It is high time for an exhibition with the theme of inclusion, for students and PhD candidates! Through this project, we aim to inquire into what is visible and what is not. The inclusive expression of stories at the Roeterseiland Campus will be exhibited from 4 February 2020!
