At the end of the first year, you will choose one of the four PPLE disciplines as a specialisation. By then, you will have taken classes in each. You will meet and discuss with your mentor which discipline fits best with your interests and future goals. The choices include:
The exercise of power dramatically impacts which issues make it to the public agenda and how those issues are dealt with. An interdisciplinary approach to political science will help you understand the processes of power and how change comes about.
If you want to do the Politics major, you must have successfully completed the course Politics, Power and Governance I. If you have not, you cannot start this major.
The human factor is a critical variable in almost all the complex problems we face today. As the study of human behaviour, psychology gives you the insights needed to unravel the roles individuals play in phenomena such as social inequality or consumer behaviour.
If you want to do the Psychology major, you must have successfully completed the course Decision Making I. If you have not, you cannot start this major.
As a guiding framework for modern societies, law cannot be ignored when addressing complex social issues. But is being legal the same thing as being the right? Interdisciplinary courses in law will help you interpret problems through the lens of the legal system.
If you want to do the Law major, you must have successfully completed the course Law, Justice and Morality I. If you have not, you cannot start this major.
Money makes the world go round, but it’s often at the heart of many challenges societies currently face. Knowing how and why resources are distributed will give you an advantage in understanding these problems and finding a solution that works for many different types of stakeholders.
If you want to do the Economics and Business major, you must have successfully completed the course Economics, Markets and Organisations I as well as pass the mathematics proficiency test. If you have not passed the mathematics test (organised in the first year at PPLE), you are not allowed to start this major.
