The programme administration will apply for your diploma if you're registered for your Master's Thesis in SIS. But make sure that you've followed all the steps described below.
Students who are enrolled for the thesis will receive an email from the programme administration. In this email they will be informed about the diploma application, the graduation ceremony and they will be asked to fill our and submit the graduation form. The diploma application will be finalised once all your grades, including the grade for the thesis, are registered in SIS.
Graduation form Master Sociology
If you do not want to graduate even though you qualify for graduation and have completed all courses and your thesis, you will have to inform the programme administration within 6 weeks after the application. Otherwise the registrar will assume you want to graduate and will finalise the diploma application as soon as you have fulfilled the programme requirements.
Processing your diploma application takes approximately six weeks. You will receive your diploma during the first possible graduation ceremony, or you may pick it up after that date. Please contact the programme administration of your programme if you have any questions about this
If, at the end of the academic year, you have not yet finished your thesis or if it is unsure whether your examination date will be in the current academic year (31 August at the latest), please register yourself again in Studielink for your studies before 1 September! If you don’t, your grade cannot be booked and your diploma cannot be processed. If you are not certain if you will finish in time, please reregister just to be sure. Needless to say; you will have to pay extra tuition fees if you have to register for another (part of the) academic year - unless you finished before 31 August after all (in which case you will be refunded).
Once you received a grade for your thesis, and an email from SIS concerning deregistration, you can deregister in Studielink. You automatically stop paying tuition fees then (and possibly get a refund). Between 1 June and 31 August, you do not have to actively deregister, since your enrollment ends automatically at the end of the academic year (31 August) and there is no tuition fee refund for this period.
You can expect the following time frame for this procedure:
Only if your final grade is submitted at least one week before the last workday of that month, the administration can guarantee an examination date in that same month.
Please note that if you have followed a non-standard programme part, such as an individual thesis, deadline extension, extracurricular courses, an internship etcetera, your diploma application can only be processed after approval of the Examinations Board. Make sure you submit your request for a non-standard programme part in time in order not to delay your graduation.
If, at the end of the academic year, you have not yet finished your thesis or if it is unsure whether your examination date will be in the current academic year (31 August at the latest), don't forget to re-enroll again through Studielink for your studies before 1 September! If you don’t, your grades cannot be booked and your diploma request cannot be processed. If you are not certain that you will finish in time, please re-enroll for your studies as well. Needless to say, you will have to pay extra tuition fees if you have to re-enroll for another (part of the) academic year.
If you are graduating with honours, the Registrar's Office will apply for such a diploma for you. You can find the conditions for graduating with honours in the Rules & Guidelines of the Examinations Board.
