Use the step-by-step guide to course registration to ensure that your registration runs as smoothly as possible.
Not all new international students or foreign exchange students who will be attending the UvA need to register for courses. You will be told by your faculty whether you need to register for courses or whether they will do this for you.
You can only register for courses if you have enrolled in a UvA study programme on Studielink. You will need your DigiD to complete this procedure. International students who do not have a DigiD should log in to Studielink using the username and password they received from firstname.lastname@example.org
UvA faculties, and in some cases specific study programmes, set their own dates for course and end-of-term exam registration. These dates are listed in the menu on the left.
Go to the UvA Course Catalogue (it is important to make sure you refresh the cache in your browser [Ctrl+F5] in order to view the correct version) to find the courses for which you would like to register. Consult the academic schedule of your study programme, which is listed in the Course Catalogue.
Use the 'Register' button next to every course description in the Course Catalogue. To add courses to the Planner, you must first log in via SIS using your UvAnetID. Repeat this procedure for each course you wish to register for. During busy periods, you may be placed in a queue before you can log in.
The courses that you have added via the Course Catalogue are now listed in the Planner. Use the 'Show Timetable' button to view the various course schedules.
Go to the Planner, check the appropriate boxes for courses/tutorials and/or end-of-term exams and click on the 'Register' button. You can only register for a course during the registration period; the check box will only be visible during this period. You will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours of completing the registration procedure. The Registration Overview tab lists all the courses for which you have registered.
If so, please use the question form.
If you cannot register for courses, please contact the student desk/programme or faculty administration/Education Service Centre (ESC) service desk.
