Algorithms exposed - Research ethics and data activism
The Amsterdam Research Initiative (ARI) is very pleased to invite you to its next lecture, with guest speaker Davide Beraldo.
Algorithms mediate our lives. However, they are generally proprietary, obscure, and unquestionable. Algorithms Exposed (ALEX) is a research project based at UvA - Media Studies, aimed at developing and testing a software tool that allows users to collect data about their own social media activity, in order to raise awareness about algorithmic biases and enable further research projects on the topic. In this presentation, Davide will introduce the project (at its preliminary stage), showcase its application, and locate it within the broader societal and academic debates on data activism, algorithmic accountability and research ethics.
