The Research Master’s in Communication Science is a two-year 120 ECTS MSc degree programme for students who would like to be at the forefront of the newest developments in understanding the role of communication and media in society. There is a focus on communication theory in corporate, persuasive, political and/or entertainment communication just as in the one-year 60 ECTS Master's programme, but there is an extra focus on the conduct of high-level research in commmunication, through coursework and also through participation in ongoing ASCoR research projects and research internships. That is why alumni usually end up in more senior (research) positions.
Starting in the academic year 2019-2020, two Research Master's tracks will be offered: an Academic track and a Professional track.
Students can be admitted to the Research Master’s programme (both the Academic and the Professional track) after obtaining a relevant Bachelor's degree, but it is also possible to switch to during your regular Master's programme. Switching after your first semester is possible without delay. The Master's thesis research already completed during the first year is elaborated during the second year in the Research Master’s programme.
Find more information here on how to apply for the Research Master’s programme. If you are considering switching from the regular Master’s programme, please contact the study adviser for tailor-made advice.
