Students must register each semester to attend courses and take exams. For more information see the Step-by-Step guide to course and exam registration.
Before starting with the step-by-step registration procedure, make sure to read the following information carefully.
In general the enrolment period starts 12 weeks before and ends 4 weeks prior to start of the semester
The registration period for the second semester 2013-2014 at the FNWI start on Monday, November 11th 2013 and closes Tuesday January 7th 2013.
You must enrol for all master’s courses in which you would like to participate. In order to enrol in courses you must meet the entry requirements that are included in the course description in the UvA Course Catalogue.
First-year master students do not need to enrol for courses during the first semester. Their enrolment will be handled by the Educational Service Centre (ESC). These students will receive information by e-mail about registration for courses during the first week of September.
If you take a midterm examination, final examination, resit or any kind of other examination without being enrolled for the course concerned, no mark will be recorded.
Students are not automatically registered for the resit if they have passed the course at the first attempt. Students who would like to participate in the resit must register at the Service Desk of the Educational Service Centre (Science Park, 1st Floor) at the latest 5 working days prior to the resit.
Please note: the last mark counts!
Students starting their Master’s programme on February 1st do not need to enrol for courses in the second semester via SIS. Their enrolment will be handled by the Educational Service Centre (ESC). Students will receive information by e-mail about registration for courses.
If you do not terminate your enrolment in time for a course that you do not intend to take, the result will be recorded as NAP (non-attendance, attempt counted) for the exam for which you have been automatically enrolled. Therefore you must make sure that you terminate your enrolment no later than 5 working days prior to the exam.
Please note: As NAP counts as an examination attempt, a failure to cancel an enrolment on time has consequences for a Cum Laude application.
Students already enroled at another UvA faculty
If you are already registered as a student at the UvA, but you are not enrolled for one of the FNWI programmes, you can take courses as a guest student. The only conditions for enrolment are capacity allows participation and that you meet the entry requirements for the particular course. You do not need to enrol separately at the FNWI or via Studielink as a guest student. Enrolment for courses works in the same way as it does for FNWI students.
Students from another university
If you are not enroled at the UvA, and you would like to take courses at the FNWI, you need to enrol at the UvA as a guest student. You will find the procedure for enroling at the UvA via the link below. Enrolment for courses works in the same way as it does for FNWI students.
