Students of the Amsterdam Law School have chosen Tarlach McGonagle (Master’s in Information Law) as the faculty’s 2018 Lecturer of the Year.
On Monday 19 March, Tarlach McGonagle was caught unawares by the bouquet of flowers presented by students and colleagues including Graduate School of Law director Marjoleine Zieck during his lecture on International Media Law, Policy and Practice. “Extremely dedicated, passionate, and knows how to make everyone else equally enthusiastic, highly knowledgeable! Never before have I had a teacher at university who showed this level of involvement!” says one of the students who voted for him.
Dr. Tarlach McGonagle is a senior researcher at the Institute for Information Law (IViR) and Lecturer of the specialised Master's in Information Law. He also coordinates and teaches a number of compulsory and elective courses in that programme in addition to being its thesis coordinator.
UvA students reap the benefits of having enthusiastic, helpful and inspiring teachers on a daily basis. That is why the UvA, in cooperation with the Central Student Council (Centrale Studentenraad CSR) and ASVA Student Union, organises an annual poll to select the Lecturer of the Year. As faculty winner of this year’s Lecturer of the Year poll, McGonagle will be in the running when the UvA Lecturer of the Year is chosen during this year’s Day of Education on 31 May.
