Study association Media Studies
Study Association Off-Screen is the association for all Media students of the Uva – for both for the Dutch and English tracks of Media and Culture as well as for Media and Information.
Being the biggest study association of the Faculty of Humanities, Off-Screen tries to make more of studying Media at the UvA than just following lectures and going to seminars by organising events where Dutch and international members can get to know each other. Next to multiple academically-oriented events such as study sessions and film nights, Off-Screen also organises different social events. Every other Monday there is a ‘borrel’ – a get-together – in Theatercafé de Richel, and there are numerous parties throughout the year.
Off-Screen also coordinates trips to different cities every year. In the academic year of 2018-2019, for example, we went on a skiing trip to Italy and a week-long study trip to Tbilisi, Georgia. Off-Screen also creates its very own Film Festival, where students can submit their own film productions to a professional jury and possibly win prizes. Apart from creating our own Film Festival, we also visit the Berlinale (the Berlin International Film Festival).
Everyone is welcome to become an Off-Screen member and maybe even join one of its many committees to actively help create the year’s events and content. This provides great hands-on experience next to your studies!
Lastly, with the Off-Screen member card, members can take advantage of numerous discounts that are promoted on Off-Screen’s website, which is found below. The card can be picked up at the Hok, Off-Screen’s office, located at Turfdraagsterpad 9 (room 0.10).
