If you have practical questions related to your studies, you can contact the Education Desk of the Faculty of Humanities (FGw).
You will find contact details and opening hours of the Education Desk FGw under Contact.
Please consult the website New students to help you find your way around at the Faculty of Humanities.
Are you unable to see a course in Canvas, even though you are correctly registered? The lecturer will make the Canvas page available in due course. Therefore, you will need to wait until the lecturer makes the course available or you may contact the lecturer.
Via course registration you will find all the relevant information on registration for courses, deregistration from courses, switching tutorials and late registration. You will also find the Course registration FAQ on this page. If your questions are still unanswered, please contact the Education Desk.
Provided you meet the course entry requirements, you can choose to register for any course offered by the UvA. If you wish to do an elective course at another university, make sure you request 'advance approval' from the Bachelor's Examinations Board or Master's Examinations Board. For more information about elective components, check your degree programme in the Course Catalogue.
Marks and passing grade
Marks are given on a scale from 1 to 10, with a maximum of one decimal. A mark of 5.5 or above is considered a passing grade. Final marks between 5.40 and 5.49 will be cut off and rounded down. This passing grade has already been set in the grade registration tool in Canvas and also applies if final grades are rounded up or down to half or whole numbers (5 or 6).
Have you passed (almost) all your courses and will you be graduating soon? Then you will need to request your degree certificate. You will find all the relevant information under Graduation.
Once your graduation date has been documented in SiS, you can request a graduation statement via the Digital Student Service Desk (if you wish). With this graduation statement, you can demonstrate that you meet the graduation requirements and that you have requested your diploma. When applying for a job or for another degree programme, you may be asked to produce such a document.
For questions about 'Rules and guidelines', exemption from courses and approval for elective courses, you can contact the Examinations Board. Any required original documents can be handed in at the Education Desk.
