List of common topics

  • Canvas

Are you unable to see a course in Canvas, even though you are correctly registered? The lecturer will make the Canvas page available in due course. Therefore, you will need to wait until the lecturer makes the course available or you may contact the lecturer.

  • Course registration

Via course registration you will find all the relevant information on registration for courses, deregistration from courses, switching tutorials and late registration. You will also find the Course registration FAQ on this page. If your questions are still unanswered, please contact the Education Desk.

  • Elective components

Provided you meet the course entry requirements, you can choose to register for any course offered by the UvA. If you wish to do an elective course at another university, make sure you request 'advance approval' from the Bachelor's Examinations Board or Master's Examinations Board. For more information about elective components, check your degree programme in the Course Catalogue.

  • Grades and transcript of records
    • Is your grade for a course incorrectly recorded in SIS? Please first contact the lecturer of the course. You will find their contact details in the Course Catalogue.
    • Do you wish to receive a list with all your grades? You can request a transcript of records via the Digital Student Service Desk.

    Marks and passing grade
Marks are given on a scale from 1 to 10, with a maximum of one decimal. A mark of 5.5 or above is considered a passing grade. Final marks between 5.40 and 5.49 will be cut off and rounded down. This passing grade has already been set in the grade registration tool in Canvas and also applies if final grades are rounded up or down to half or whole numbers (5 or 6).

  • Graduation

Have you passed (almost) all your courses and will you be graduating soon? Then you will need to request your degree certificate. You will find all the relevant information under Graduation.

Once your graduation date has been documented in SiS, you can request a graduation statement via the Digital Student Service Desk (if you wish). With this graduation statement, you can demonstrate that you meet the graduation requirements and that you have requested your diploma. When applying for a job or for another degree programme, you may be asked to produce such a document.

  • Minor

For an overview of the available minors, please check the list of minors. You will find more information on application and admission to a minor in the Course Catalogue.

  • Termination of enrolment

Enrolment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree programme can be terminated via the Studielink website. For more information and a step-by-step guide, check Termination of enrolment.

    Please note:

    • If you terminate your enrolment ├índ you are graduating, make sure you give 'graduation' as your reason for terminating your enrolment in Studielink.
    • If you submit your request for termination after 31 May, your enrolment will not be terminated until 31 August. Enrolment termination with retroactive effect is not possible.
