FAQ

Frequently asked questions and answers about course registration.

Before and during registration:

After registration:

  • I have registered for a course, but do not see the course in Course Registration or SIS. Why is that?

You were on the waiting list, but no places have become available. The Education Desk has sent you an email to inform you.

  • How can I see for which courses I am registered?

You can find all your registrations at uva.nl/courseregistration under 'Overview of Registrations'. Here you can also check for which courses you are still on the waiting list. If you do not meet the entry requirements, your registration will be cancelled by the Education Desk.

  • Why have I not been placed in the tutorial for which I originally registered?

This may occur when more or fewer tutorial groups are offered. If the tutorial group overlaps with other lectures or tutorials, you can try to switch groups with a fellow student. In any case, please contact the Education Desk.

  • I am on the waiting list for a compulsory course. When will I know in which tutorial I have been placed?

The Education Desk will place you in a tutorial before the start of the course. You can see which tutorial group you have been allocated to in uva.nl/courseregistration under ‘Overview of registrations’.

    More information: Waiting list

    Two different scenarios apply:

    • Scenario 1: waiting list placement during the official registration period:
Placement in the course is guaranteed, albeit not necessarily in the group of your preference. You will be informed of which tutorial group you have been placed in prior to the start of the first lecture.
    • Scenario 2: waiting list placement after the official registration period:
Placement in the course is not guaranteed. You will be informed of whether you have been placed in the course and, if you have been placed, which tutorial group you have been placed in, prior to the start of the first lecture. The faculty strives to prevent study delays.
  • The course registration period is over. Can I still register for a course?

After the course registration period is over, you will have the opportunity to register for courses in which places are still available.

    • Compulsory course:
If you are not able to register for a compulsory course because no places are available, you can sign up for the waiting list via SIS up until one week after the semester has started. Because this registration takes place after the official registration period has closed, placement in the course is not guaranteed.
    • Elective course:
You can only register for elective courses if places are still available.
