The Student Initiative for Open Science (SIOS) is organising a Science Communication Symposium!

We have invited four experts to cover different perspectives on science communication, both within and outside of academia. While open access publishing and other practices increase transparency in science, there is also a plethora of misinformation. Who should be responsible for translating science to the public, and how can this be done in a responsible way? Should researchers themselves be involved, and if so, should this be part of the science curricula?

Our speakers will present their experiences and insights into different aspects of science communication. This will be followed by a panel discussion and audience Q&A where we will explore how science communication can be incorporated into various career paths and discuss the effects of the open science movement on the field of science communication.

Speakers:

  • Jeanette Mostert             | Science Dissemination Manager at Radboud University
  • Frederike Schmitz            | Program Lead for Societal Engagement/Citizen Science at NWO
  • Anna Aris                           | PhD Candidate at the VU Athena Institute
  • Stan van Pelt                     | Science Journalist and Educator at Radboud University

We invite you to join us for the (Open) Science Communication Symposium on June 9th at REC-C0.02. This symposium is specifically organised with bachelor's and master's students in mind, but is open to everyone. The official program starts at 4:00 PM and ends at 6:00 PM, followed by us grabbing some drinks at CREA Café. We hope to see you all there! Please sign up for the event hereExterne link
