Professor Monique Volman researched how UvA lecturers organized online teaching in the past year and what their experiences were. Nearly 1000 UvA lecturers completed a survey and 32 lecturers spoke in focus groups about how they stimulated online interaction and learning. Dr Jessica Piotrowski interviews her about the results of this study, and about the lessons we can learn from the experience of a year of online education. Starting from 'emergency remote teaching', we eventually learned a lot about what does and does not work. And equally important: we now know even better why meeting on campus is so important.
Prof Dr Monique Volman is Professor of Educational Sciences at the University of Amsterdam and program leader of the Educational Sciences research program of the Research Institute of Child Development and Education (CDE) at the University of Amsterdam. She is also a member of the Onderwijsraad. In her research, she works together with teachers, school leaders and school boards on educational improvement and an inquisitive culture in primary and secondary education. As a faculty professor, she wants to create an inquisitive culture in regards to education at the UvA.
