UvA Economics and Business
If you have passed all the mandatory courses of your degree programme and submitted the final version of your thesis, then you are ready to graduate. In order to graduate you need to request your degree certificate. This also applies during the coronacrisis. On this website you can read all about the current rules and possibilities.
Under 'Receiving your degree certificate' you will find an update on what options you have to receive your degree certificate.
Consult the Course Catalogue to check whether you have passed all the mandatory courses of your study programme. Please be aware that there may have been transitional arrangements due to changes in your degree programme. Under My Study Results on sis.uva.nl you will find your results for all of your courses.
If you have passed additional courses alongside your mandatory courses, you may have get approval from the Board of Examiners to include these courses on your degree certificate. Below you will find the various options, including a link to more information on how to request permission from the Board of Examiners.
You can already request your degree certificate while you are waiting for a decision from the Board of Examiners.
Your study results are only valid for a certain amount of time. The results of completed bachelor courses have a guaranteed validity of 6 years and the results of completed master courses have a guaranteed validity of 3 years. You can file a request to the Board of Examiners to extend the validity of the courses, if the content of the courses has not changed and if the courses are still part of the curriculum.
You can submit a request for your degree certificate in the month:
If your last grade has not yet been registered in SIS, you can already file a request for your degree certificate. Even if the outbreak of the coronavirus prevents you from handing in your official exchange or minor transcript at the Education Desk.
This will allow us to already start checking whether you meet all the other requirements. Once your grade(s) has/have been registered in SIS, we will quickly be able to complete processing your request for your degree certificate.
Please note that to file a request for your degree certificate you need to be enrolled for your degree programme in Studielink.
Request your degree certificate online. (Please note: DO NOT request your degree certificate via SIS)
We will respond to your request within 10 working days. Keep in mind that the response time during the busy summer period can be longer (15 working days). Even though you can already file a request before, we can only confirm your eligibility to graduate once all your results are registered in SIS.
The graduation date is scheduled as the final working day of the month in which you filed your request for your degree certificate. However, the first possible graduation date is the final working day of the month in which you have obtained your final result.
The cum laude provisions are part of the Rules and Guidelines of the Board of Examiners. You can find the requirements for graduating with distinction (cum laude) on the cum laude page.
Did you participate in the honours programme? Then you could potentially add the honours programme to your study programme. On Honours programme, you will find the requirements for including the honours programme on your degree certificate.
If you have passed all your courses but still want to do an internship or go on exchange, then you have to remain registered as a student. Therefore, only file a request for your degree certificate once you have obtained your final grade from your exchange university or when you have completed your internship.
Did you file your request for your degree certificate before or in May?
Have you filed a request for your degree certificate and submitted your thesis or taken your last exam? Then you can terminate your enrolment in Studielink. Indicate ‘graduation’ as your reason for termination. This ensures that if your final result is unexpectedly insufficient, your enrolment will not be terminated, thereby allowing you to resit the final exam. If you terminate your enrolment in Studielink before or in May, the tuition fees for the remaining months might be refunded. More information on this topic and other related issues, can be found on Termination of enrolment.
Did you file a request for your degree certificate in June, July or August?
In that case you cannot terminate your enrolment in Studielink. Your enrolment will be terminated automatically at the end of the academic year (31 August). You will not be refunded any tuition fees, since the tuition fees are divided over the first 10 months of the academic year.
More information on this topic and other related issues can be found on Termination of enrolment.
When requesting your degree certificatie you indicate whether you want to (1) collect your degree certificate at the Education Desk, (2) receive your it during the graduation ceremonie, or (3) receive it via post.
After the first check has been conducted, you will receive an first reaction from the Student Administration with the pick-up date or the date for the graduation ceremony.
Please note that you can only receive your degree certificate once.
You can participate in the graduation ceremony if you request your degree certificate in time. You can find the deadline for requesting your degree certificate in this overview. If you file a request after the deadline, you cannot participate in the upcoming graduation ceremony. However, you will be able to participate in a subsequent graduation ceremony. If you participate in the graduation ceremony you will only receive your degree certificate at the ceremony. It is not possible to pick it up before the ceremony. We are able to produce a confirmation of graduation letter for you, if you need it for applications or job interviews. You can request the confirmation of graduation letter via the Digital Student Service Desk.
As soon as the Education Desk reopens, you will be able to pick up your degree certificate again. As it is still unkown when this will be the case, you also have the opportunity to receive your degree certificate via post. You will receive more information via email about this.
In the meantime you can request a graduation statement through the Digital Student Service Desk.
