Studying, besides being inspiring, can also be stressful. During the lecture-free week starting 31 October, you can join in various training sessions to help you develop your study skills.

The first teaching weeks of blocks 1, 2, 4 and 5 are scheduled free of lectures and tests. These weeks provide moments of rest in the academic year which you can use to prepare yourself for the courses of the new block. During the upcoming lecture-free week, from 31 October until 4 November, several workshops will be organised to help you develop your academic skills. You can follow workshops on the topics of:

  • smart reading;
  • how to process the study material;
  • smart planning, and;
  • tips for exams.

In this overview, you can find more information on the workshops and the link to the application form. Note: the number of participants is limited, so don't forget to apply. After your application, you will receive more information through e-mail. Participation is free of charge, but if you apply, you are expected to participate actively in the workshop(s) you signed up for. 

Workshop: 'Smart reading'

During your studies and in your career afterwards, you have to read a lot. In this workshop, you’ll be introduced to the technique of reading fast and with better comprehension. You’ll learn about: 

  • active and passive reading;
  • how to get a quick grip on texts;
  • the basics of speed reading.

Workshop:  'How to process the study material?'

During your studies, you’ll have to process a lot of information, requiring more than reading only. In this workshop, you’ll be introduced to techniques to handle information. You’ll discover the advantages and disadvantages, and you’ll get to try an effective method: mind mapping.

Workshop: 'Planning your studies realistically'

Studying can be inspiring and fun, but also stressful and time consuming, especially when deadlines or exams are coming up. During this one-hour-workshop you will learn some basic techniques to plan your studies, tasks and time realistically (no more studying late at night!). Please join if you want to improve your study skills and increase your personal effectiveness.

Workshop: 'Tips for exams'

Exams can cause anxiety, but there are ways to reduce this stress. In this workshop, you’ll be introduced to approaching different kinds of questions, like multiple choice or essay questions. Also, you’ll get to try an exercise to reduce the stress.
