Last week, the first study using the UvA panel was organised. A small group of students were asked for their opinion on the GLASS application that is currently being developed, and that once finished will show them which actions they need to take to receive their degree certificate. With this and other studies, the UvA wants to give students and employees the opportunity to voice their opinion through the panel on matters at the University of Amsterdam.

Meike Mak (UX specialist at POL) is involved with the development of the GLASS application and the first to ask students for their opinion through the UvA panel: “The tool we are building shows students what they need to do to receive their degree certificate, like signing up for courses and course planning. The project is still in the early phases, but eventually we want everything to be as user-friendly as possible for students. That is why it is very valuable that we can already involve students in the development of the tool and get feedback from them. This way, students can help us in an accessible manner and ultimately get a tool that suits their needs.”

Better aligned with students’ wishes and ideas

All UvA students and employees can participate in research via the panel. Research can be about a new application, but also about new policies or themes like sustainability and online education. Maarten Remijn, initiator of the panel and product owner of the Mijn UvA App, explains why it’s good to have a panel: “During the continuing development of the My UvA App I regularly need input from students. It is rather complicated if everyone with the need for input has to look for students that are willing to participate by themselves. Involving students in making improvements for students should be as easy as possible, and the UvA panel is a good way to achieve that. It helps us to create apps, policies and communication that is even better aligned with students’ wishes and ideas.”

How does it work?

All UvA students and employees can take part in the panel. After you sign up you will be invited to participate in an online questionnaire, panel discussion or interview a few times a year. You can decide whether you want to take part per study. Each time you participate, you will join a lottery to win gift vouchers for Albert Heijn, and more. Would you like to voice your opinion on a range of topics?
