FAQ

  • How do I apply for a UvAnetID?

    You will receive an email with your UvAnetID once you have enrolled as a UvA student. Your user name will be the same as your student ID card number and cannot be changed.

  • How can I activate my UvAnetID?

    Important: It is only possible to activate your account or reset your password by using a laptop/computer. Mobile phones and tablets do not work.

    In order to activate your account or change your password, please go to https://id.student.uva.nl/and follow these steps:
    1. Click on Activate my account or I forgot my password;
    2. Enter your UvAnetID and click on Proceed;
    3. On the next screen, enter your Date of Birth and your Private E-mail address that you used to register at studielink.nl
    4. Check the box "I agree with the ICT code of conduct" and click on Proceed;
    5. Go to your private e-mail address and check whether you have received an e-mail or SMS with an Activation Code (NOTE: the code expires after 2 hours!);
    6. Open the URL from your e-mail/SMS and enter your UvAnetID and click on Proceed; then fill in the Activation Code and click on Proceed
    7. Enter a new password that meets the requirements (twice).

  • When will I receive my UvAnetID and password?

    About a week after your enrolment request in Studielink, you will receive an email with your UvAnetID and your personal password. Please keep in mind, however, that delays are possible, which means you might not immediately receive the confirmation email.

    Take care of your password and change it regularly, preferably at least once every six months.

    For more information about registering, contact the Central Student Service Desk.

  • How can I view and change my personal settings?

    You can access your personal settings through the UvA Identity Management System. This information is taken from the Student Administration Office. Errors can be corrected in Studielink or by contacting your faculty's student desk.

    Via the UvA Identity Management System, you can also enter additional details and indicate whether your address information may be viewed by others.

    Please note: your user name and password in Studielink is not the same as your UvAnetID.

  • Do I have two numbers?

    All students at the University of Amsterdam have two numbers:

    • a UvAnetID
    • a student number

    Both numbers are on your student card. For most students, these numbers are identical. Only students who registered at the UvA for the first time in the 2010-2011 academic year have different numbers.

  • I have changed my password, and now I can’t log in to anything anymore. What should I do?

    Your account has been locked. The reason is that too many attempts were made to log in to a protected site using the old, i.e. wrong, password. An account lock lasts fifteen minutes, but if the cause is not addressed, your account will simply be locked again.

    Try to find out where the old password has been stored. Passwords are often stored in web browsers or in Windows Credential Manager. For more information on this, consult the relevant questions in the FAQs. If this doesn't work contact the ICTS Servicedesk: 020 525 1402.
