Come to the UvA Health Week from 13 to 16 May 2019.
The UvA Health Week is all about health: sports, exercise and nutrition as well as stress, burnout and other mental health issues. It’s about living a healthier life and why we sometimes fail to do so.
This year’s theme is ‘balance’. What is balance? Are you in balance, or just balancing? Does balance even mean the same thing for everyone? Today’s 24/7 society, in which we are constantly bombarded with information and we struggle with choice overload as well as the pressure to perform, makes it important that we periodically stop to think about what we are doing why and how.
Activities aimed especially at students and PhD candidates will be organised across the UvA campus during the UvA Health Week. It is a week full of exercise, debate and reflection. Come join us!

Why UvA Health Week?
The UvA has been striving to support the mental and physical well-being of the entire UvA community for years. There are signals that our students and PhD candidates’ psychological well-being has been suffering lately. Today’s 24/7 society, in which we are constantly bombarded with information and we struggle with choice overload as well as the pressure to perform, makes it important that we periodically stop to think about what we are doing why and how. To this end, the UvA Health Week was launched.
The UvA has always worked to support the psychological and physical well-being of the entire UvA community. There are signals that the psychological well-being of our students and PhD students is worsening. In the current 24/7 society in which we are constantly flooded with stimuli and are confronted with choice overload and pressure to perform, it is important to regularly stop and think about what we do, why and how. This is how the UvA Health Week was born.
The UvA Health Week is organised by a project team consisting of staff, students and PhD candidates at the UvA. The following parties contribute to the organisation or offer activities:
Health Week part of UvA Care Plan
The UvA Health Week is part of the UvA Care Plan. This plan is a UvA-wide project aimed at improving the mental health of our students and PhD candidates. The Care Plan entails various sub-projects, which were launched at the beginning of 2018. If you have any questions about the UvA Care Plan, please contact project leader Jorien van Blom.
