The UvA's J.Pzn. Sweelinck student orchestra, the oldest symphony orchestra in Amsterdam, is giving a concert in the Dominicus church on Tuesday, 6 December. Because there is more interest than seats available, we're holding a ticket draw. Enter your name in the draw by 25 November for a chance to win a concert ticket.

Led by Swiss conductor Konradin Herzog, the Sweelinck Orchestra will perform the following pieces:

  • Antonín Dvořák - Cello Concerto in B minor
  • Richard Wagner - Tristan und Isolde, Prelude and Liebestod
  • Jan van Gilse - Symphony No. 2 in E-flat major

More about the concert

This autumn, the UvA student Orchestra J. Pzn. SweelinckExternal link will play a wonderful romantic programme full of passion and desire. In cooperation with soloist Anastasia Feruleva, the orchestra will play the Cello concerto in B minor by Antonín Dvořák. Anastasia Feruleva is a member of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and regularly performs as a soloist. Her playing is widely praised for its expression and phrasing

Besides this famous cello concerto, the Sweelinck Orchestra will play the Prelude and Liebestod from the well-known opera Tristan and Isolde by Richard Wagner. This famous opera was written between 1856 and 1859 and would go on to exert a lot of influence on the further development of classical music.

Finally, the orchestra will also perform Symphony No. 2 in E-flat major by Jan van Gilse. The Dutch composer wrote the symphony between 1902-1903.
