Second hand children’s clothing should be the standard according to students Lucas van Straalen, Julius van Dijk and David Soesan of the minor Entrepreneurship. They won the first prize of €1,000 for their start-up ‘Circle of Parents’ during Demo Day last Thursday.
The students established Circle of Parents with the aim to make second hand children’s clothing normal. Parents can easily and safely buy pre-loved children’s clothing via the website. This way, parents don’t have to leave good-quality clothing that children have outgrown in the closet and they won’t have to buy more expensive children’s clothing.
The start-up Plekky won second prize. Plekky was founded by students Marc Wiggerman, Tjalling Jelsma, Rosa Lokenberg and Maarten van Keulen of the minor Enterpreneurship. With this concept they can offer unsold seats as an upgrade. Attendees at a performance can see which seats are available for an upgrade via a seat map in the app. The students won the second prize of €250 for this idea.
FanSea won the audience prize. The students Jasper Luijendijk, Martijn Scheltens, Michelle Nierop and Vera van Laarhoven have the mission to open up the world to eco-friendly alternatives and to find a solution for the pollution caused by plastic disposables. So why not start with an eco-friendly alternative for straws? Did you know that about 8 million single-used straws are used every day in Europe? Their alternative: why don’t we use straws made out of seaweed algae? A product from the ocean for the ocean. The audience prize was a cheque for €500.
Every year the minor Entrepreneurship organises Demo Day. Students work in groups on their start-ups and pitch them for a jury and ultimately for the public if they continue on to the Pitch Finals. Over the past five months, 70 students formed 21 startup teams and went through an intensive programme consisting of over 15 workshops and many professional coaching sessions. This year seven project teams were allowed to pitch their start-ups during Demo Day.
