Special examination arrangements for students with a disability

Special examination arrangements for students with a disability

Are you a student with a disability or a chronic condition and are you facing difficulties regarding your academic progress? The University of Amsterdam offers several types of support, such as, for example special arrangements for your exams.

Special arrangements

The support may differ from the support you received from (one of) your former universities. Please contact a Student counsellor to discuss any possiblities for support.

To be eligible for special arrangements for your midterms, resits/exams, you have to apply for these.

  • Requesting special arrangements

    Allocation special arrangements

    The Student counsellor allocates special arrangements.

    • For dyslexia, you only need to upload your dyslexia report;
    • in all the other cases, you need to make an appointment with the Student counsellor.

    To be sure the arrangements are organised in time, you are expected to have confirmation from the Student counsellor no later than two weeks prior to your first exam.

    Special arrangements connected with course enrolment

    When you register for a course, you are automatically registered for the exam and for the resit. This also applies to the special arrangements that were granted to you.

    In the exceptional situation that you have already passed the course, but still want to take the resit to improve your grade, please notice the following. Make sure you apply for the special arrangement separately no later than 2 weeks before the resit. Please contact the Education Desk in time, so arrangements can be prepared in time.

  • Making use of the special arrangement of extra time for online exams

    Procedure for extra time for online exams

    For students for whom the special arrangement of extra time has been allocated, the extra time will automatically be incorporated into the time they are given to complete an online exam. Procotorio has no influence on the special arrangement of extra time.

    Conditions

    The Student Counsellors allocate the special arrangement of extra time.

    The special arrangement of extra time automatically applies to online exams. Students for whom the Student Counsellors have already allocated the special arrangement of extra time do not need to submit an additional request for online exams.

    Do you not yet have the special arrangement of extra time? See requesting special arrangements. To be sure the arrangement of extra time is organised in time for your (online) exam, you are expected to have confirmation from the Student counsellor no later than two weeks prior to your exam.

    How much extra time do I receive?

    • For exams of 2 hours or less you are eligible for 15 minutes extra time
    • For exams longer than 2 hours, you are eligible for 30 minutes extra time
    • The extra time is scheduled after the regular exam time

    The allocated arrangement is valid for:

    • Exams you take in the period for which the arrangements are allocated
    • Exams and tests you take at UvA Economics and Business. If you are also taking courses at other faculties, please inquire as to how you can make use of special arrangements at the faculty concerned

    • The extra time is scheduled after the regular exam time. Only for exams that are at the Roeterseiland Campus (REC) and that last until 22:00, the extra time is scheduled before the regular exam;
    • You will take the exam at the normal exam location with the other students;

    2. Larger examination sheet

    When you have the right to use an A3 format exam, instead of the regular A4 format, you can use this arrangement at the regular exam location.

    Please inform the examiner before the exam commences about the fact you are eligible to receive an A3 format exam.

    3. Laptop

    4. Customised arrangements

    In some cases customised arrangements are necessary. The Student counsellor will clarify how and where you can use these arrangements during the intake.
