We recommend following no more than 30 EC worth of courses per semester. This is equivalent to a study load of 40 hours per week. You may register for a maximum of 42 EC per semester.
You are allowed to register for a total of 42 EC per semester, including Honours courses (if you're an Honours student). If you register for more credits you will receive a warning per e-mail. If you are still registered for more than 42 EC by the time the course registration period closes, the surplus courses you registered for will automatically be cancelled.
An exception is made for students in a double study programme.
In semester 1 there are two course registration periods for master students. When registering for Master’s courses, period 1 will be checked to verify registration for a maximum of 18 EC and period 2 for registration for 24 EC.
Due to COVID-19, just this once, an exception will be made to the 42 EC maximum amount of credits per semester this academic year (2020-2021). This means that you will be allowed to enrol for more than 42 EC, but this only applies to the second semester of the academic year 2020-21.
We strongly advise against taking more than 42 EC as it significantly increases your risk of study delay. If you plan on taking more credits, please make an appoint with a study adviser to make a realistic study plan.
