What kind of help do they offer?

You can turn to a UvA student counsellor for a confidential conversation, advice and information on matters that are not directly related to the content of your degree programme, but which relate to your personal situation or your study progress. This might involve:

See the study adviser for your degree programme first

In most cases, your study adviser is the first person you should talk to about your situation. They are aware of your specific academic circumstances and can form an opinion on whether you need information or guidance from a student counsellor.

Schedule an appointment

You can make an appointment with a student counsellor. Anything you discuss with the student counsellor will remain confidential.

In principle, you are welcome to visit any student counsellor. However, we kindly request you to book the appointment with a specific counsellor in the following cases:

  • The study adviser of your programme has referred you to this counsellor.
  • You prefer to see the student counsellor, who is the first point of contact of your faculty, i.e. programme. Please check below the faculties, colleges or schools, i.e. programmes, and their connected student counsellor:
    • Faculty of Economics and Business: Jeanette Eindhoven
    • Faculty of Humanities: Karin Waanders
    • Faculty of Medicine (Amsterdam UMC): Claudia Flüggen
    • Faculty of Science: Karin van Spriel
    • Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences: Mohammad Arab (AUC, Communication Science, and Psychology), and Marjan Kuiper (College Social Sciences, and Child Development and Education)
    • Amsterdam Law School: Ans Rekers
    • Faculty of Dentistry (ACTA): Claudia Flüggen
    • Not connected to a specific faculty nor programme: Rosa Baggelaar
