Participating in an international multidisciplinary student conference in Edinburgh?

The Office of International Student Affairs (BIS) will nominate a maximum of 3 students to participate in the Universitas 21 - Undergraduate Research Conference.

Universitas 21 network

The Undergraduate Research Conference is part of the Universitas 21 network. This is an international collaboration of 23 leading universities in 15 different countries. The network facilitates cooperation between the participating member universities. During the Undergraduate Research Conference approximately 110 talented from different disciplines will be invited to present and discuss their bachelor thesis in a multidisciplinary setting.

“Future Societies, Global Citizens”

The theme of this conference will be “What global challenges will face future societies and how can today’s internationally minded students become global citizens?” In collaboration with the University of Edinburgh’s Global Academies, the conference will be positioned under the four main themes of development, health, justice and the environment.

Under each theme we will explore the potential for active global citizenship in improving human rights, realising fundamental freedoms, expanding human knowledge, and driving innovation. The conference will offer a unique opportunity for undergraduate scholars to hone their research, public speaking and networking skills with acclaimed academics and peers from around the world.

There will also be the opportunity to participate in a variety of extracurricular events to explore Scotland’s political and cultural heritage, from tours of Edinburgh Castle and the Scottish Parliament to a traditional Ceilidh dance.

This conference will provide students from Universitas 21 partner universities opportunities to:

  • Grapple with global challenges
  • Widen your horizons through exploring global citizenship
  • Sharpen your public speaking skills
  • Engage with design thinking and innovation
  • Build a global network
  • Engage with Scottish culture
  • Have fun!
