Microsoft 365 e-mail

As of July 2020, all UvA students have a UvA mailbox on the Microsoft 365 platform at their disposal.

UvA e-mail address

Each UvA student has their own UvA e-mail address on the Microsoft 365 platform. You can log on to Microsoft 365 and will always receive e-mails from the UvA at this UvA e-mail address. As an additional service, the e-mails you receive in your UvA mailbox are automatically forwarded to the e-mail address you submitted as your correspondence address in Studielink. If you are happy with this, no further action is required. If you want to disable this e-mail forwarding, go to your account settings and select my details. This will allow you to separate study-related e-mails from your personal e-mail.

Mailbox moving from G-Suite to Microsoft 365

Many students had a UvA e-mail address already, as well as a mailbox in G-Suite. In July 2020 this mailbox was moved from G-Suite to Microsoft 365. Existing e-mail addresses remained the same. All e-mails, calendars and contacts have been transferred to the new 50 GB mailbox in Microsoft 365.

How will the files be relocated?

G Suite will remain available as an archive until 31 December 2020. If you want to save files that are located in G Suite, you need to transfer them to Microsoft 365 yourself before 31 December 2020, using this manual.

E-mail limit

You can e-mail a maximum of 250 addresses per hour. This can be one message with 250 addresses in the to/cc/bcc, or multiple messages with fewer recipients. A distribution list or group from the shared address book counts as one addressee. If you go over the limit you get a "Message delayed" message and you can no longer mail. Retained messages are automatically sent when the limit has passed. After that you can just mail again.

      POP3 and IMAP do not meet the security requirements and are therefore not available.
    • How do I change my correspondence e-mail address if I don't have a Studielink account?
      Change it by using this form to change correspondence email address
    • I receive UvA e-mails in my private mailbox despite having disabled the forwarding service. Why is that?
      UvA has a large number of systems that all send e-mail. We expect that all systems will be converted by 1 October 2020.
    • Can I still use the e-mail after I graduate?
      You can send and receive e-mails for 90 days after your graduation. After this period, your UvA mailbox will be closed.
    • I don't want to use Microsoft 365 and object to my data going to Microsoft. What can I do?
      All e-mails sent to you by UvA will automatically be forwarded to your Studielink correspondence e-mail address. If you want to keep it that way, you don't have to log in to Microsoft 365. As long as you don't publicise your UvA student e-mail address, the UvA mailbox will only contain e-mail from UvA to you. Contracts with Microsoft comply with the AVG and no opt-out is possible.     • I want to change the forwarding via but the option is inactive. Why is that?
      Students without registration cannot turn off the forwarding. This option will become available once you are definitively enrolled.
