Follow the steps listed below to request your Bachelor’s degree certificate. Also, consult the UvA regulations concerning graduation/degree certificate application and general information about student finance .
Request your degree certificate when you are finishing up the final module(s) of your Bachelor’s programme. You can also request your degree certificate when visiting the Education Desk to submit your Bachelor’s thesis or your internship report.
Note: Choose the correct certification (examination) date. This is the date of the last workday of the month in which you have obtained your final grade. The grades are registered in SIS on the date that you took the final exam or uploaded/handed in your final work (for instance your thesis). For example, if your final exam takes place on the 20th of June, you can choose the 30th of June as your graduation date (even when you didn’t receive your grade yet).
In case you have to re-sit your final exam or your thesis, contact the Education Desk to help you change the certification (examination) date.
In order to graduate, you need to request your degree certificate in SIS as well as fill in the online graduation form.
When you log on to SIS click on ‘Study advice/degree cert.’ followed by ‘Apply for degree certificate’. Choose the right certification date (examination date). This is the last workday of the month in which you receive your last grade. In most cases this is the month in which you hand in your Bachelor’s thesis or internship report.
Note: you cannot choose a certification date that is already in the past. So be sure to request your degree certificate ahead of time.
Fill in the online graduation form. With this form we ask you to provide information that is required in order to process your degree certificate request. You can also indicate if and when you wish to attend a graduation ceremony.
You can receive your degree certificate by postal mail or pick it up at the Education Desk Communication Science. You indicate your choice in the online graduation form. Note that it can take about 2-3 months after you have graduated to receive your degree certificate. For instance, if you have obtained your last study result in July, you can expect to receive your degree certificate in October the latest. You will be notified once your degree certificate is ready to be picked up or to be sent by postal mail.
You can receive your degree certificate during the graduation ceremony or pick it up at the Education Desk of Communication Science. You can indicate your choice on the online Graduation Form.
If you choose to take part in the graduation ceremony, you will receive an email with more information. Attention: You can only take part in a certain ceremony when you have requested your degree certificate in time via SIS and have completed the graduation form. Your exam date (= your degree certification date in SIS) must lay at least 20 working days before the date of the graduation ceremony.
The next graduation ceremony will take place on 28 October (Dutch track only) and 29 October 2021 (English track). More information about the specific programme will follow. We are still occupied with evaluating different scenarios and want to try to accommodate students' needs for an on-campus and online ceremony, depending on the Covid-19 regulations that are in place at that time.
If you do not want to take part in the graduation ceremony, you can pick up your degree certificate at the Education Desk of Communication Science. You will receive an email once your degree certificate is ready to pick up, at most two months after your degree certification date.
You must be enrolled at UvA up to and including the certification date (examination date in SIS). If you have requested your degree certificate, you can submit a request for termination of enrolment in Studielink with effect from the first day of the month following the certification date. The enrolment termination date that you submit must not precede the certification date. Enter the reason for termination of enrolment in Studielink: graduation. You will continue to pay tuition fees until your request for a degree certificate has been approved. If applicable, you will receive a refund of any excess tuition fees you have paid.
If you plan to start your Master’s programme in Communication Science right after your Bachelor’s programme, you need to submit your enrolment application for the Master’s Programme in Studielink and register for Master’s courses in SIS during the course registration. Your enrolment for the Master’s programme and participation in Master’s courses is conditional as long as not all your Bachelor’s results are known. Your enrolment application for the Master’s programme could be canceled if:
