This page provides an overview on which parties run for the FGw Faculty Student Council (FSR) and what their views are.

TOF

As the biggest and the only decentralised party at the Faculty of Humanities, TOF stands for:

  • A decentralised University of Amsterdam, where the power of decision making are made on the lowest possible level, whilst participation of students and staff is ensured.

  • A more diverse Faculty of Humanities, where every student feels at home and where there is a place for diversity in the curriculum.

  • Strong Programme Committees that are involved in shaping the curriculum at an early stage.

  • A faculty with education of the highest quality, in which the intrinsic value of the humanities is safeguarded.

  • A more sustainable faculty, where there is attention for the environment.

  • A faculty where the importance of democracy is acknowledged: where dialogue triumphs and the Student Council and Programme Committees are heard.

De Vrije Student

De Vrije Student (The Free Student) puts students in the first place. That means that all lectures should be available online, that there should be more space in the university to study and that we are in favour of a higher teaching level in international classes. We find it important that you can evolve yourself to the utmost level during your time in college. Being a student is more than just study: it also comprehends the possibility to become a board member of your study association, to have a job next to your study or enjoy your free time in Amsterdam! We want you to be able to make use of these possibilities by giving you online lectures.

At the same time, we stand for a realistic university: of course, we are not against gender neutral toilets or vegan food in the cantina, but can the university’s money not in the first place be spent in another way? We say: first the study spaces and online lectures, and after that we can look into other subjects. That is how we distinguish ourselves from other parties.

020Together

020Together is the newest party on the block for the 2020 FMG student council elections. Fighting for inclusive and bottom-up change that actually makes an impact lies at the core of our ambition, and has led us to brand ourselves as progressive pragmatists. The latter is based on two central principles. The progressive principle is a belief in bottom-up democracy, and care for the collective and its environment. The second foundational principle, the pragmatic principle, is an understanding of real-world institutional limitations, and in the need to assess carefully the costs, benefits, and unintended consequences of our actions. With these principles at heart, we set out to enhance the student’s experience at the UvA, focusing on three main pillars: integration, housing, and work.
