The current contractual agreement with Turnitin was concluded by SURFmarket in 2014; the UvA is purchasing this licence via SURFmarket. The UvA has obtained explicit assurances from Turnitin that papers and relevant personal data will be used only for the purposes of assessing essays.
Turnitin User Agreement not applicable to institutional users
Through agreements contained in the licence agreement, Turnitin has established and certified that:
- the Turnitin user agreement (EULA) does not apply to institutional users;
- on the basis of the licence agreement, Turnitin will not obtain right of ownership of the data being uploaded;
- Turnitin additionally states that it does not use the data for other purposes than those for which the institution has concluded a licence agreement, namely the detection of plagiarism.
