The UvA Students' Charter describes the rights and obligations of both students and the university. It consists of a general part applying to all students at the UvA and a part for specific disciplines.

Teaching and Examination Regulations
The Teaching and Examination Regulations (TER) lay down all the rules and guidelines regarding:
- admission;
- content and structure of the degree programmes;
- teaching;
- assessment and examination;
- transitional provisions.

Examinations Regulations
The Examinations Regulations govern topics including:
- Duties and procedures of the Examinations Board;
- Rules of conduct during exams;
- Requests for exemptions;
- Criteria for awarding the classification cum laude ('with distinction');
- Assessment of exams.

Transitional arrangements
Changes are made to the curricula of law schools almost every year. There are transitional arrangements for students who started a programme before a change took place and who may have problems with their study programme as a result.
