Course registration

Graduate School of Child Development and Education

Each semester you are required to register for courses during the official registration period. When you register for a course you are automatically registered for the accompanying Canvas page, the exams, and resits.

Course registration period

Make sure to register during the official registration period. Only then you will be guaranteed a place in the compulsory courses. The registration period for the Master’s and Research Master's courses offered during semester 1 of the academic year 2021-2022 is:

Step-by-step guide to course registration

Step 1: Enrol in your degree programme in Studielink

Request enrolment in an UvA degree programme via Studielink. This requires a DigiD. It may take up to 48 hours before you can register for courses.

Step 2: Select your courses

Go to the Course Catalogue, find your degree programme and select the courses you want to follow.

Step 3: Enter your chosen courses in the Planner

Go to, find your courses and click on ‘Add Course’.

Step 4: Check your timetable

Go to the Planner tab and view your course timetable under ‘Open timetable’. 

Step 5: Complete the course registration

Go to the Planner tab, check the boxes for the courses you wish to follow and click on 'Register' and then on ‘OK’.

Step 6: Check your registration

Go to the 'Overview of registrations’ tab and check your registration.


You can cancel course registration at Go to the ‘Overview of registrations’ tab, check the box next to the course you wish to cancel and click on 'Deregister' and then on ‘OK’.  You can only cancel courses up until the end of the first week [or an alternative restriction] after the start of the course.

Please note: it is important to deregister for courses you do not plan to follow. If you do not attend a course for which you registered, the result recorded for this course will be ‘NAP’ (the Dutch abbreviation for ‘non-attendance, counted as exam attempt’). Moreover, you will be preventing a fellow student from occupying your place in the course.
