Useful information

Here you can find a summary of all the useful information that you need as a new student. You can find also more detailed the information in the A-Z list.

  • Introduction day

Due to the Covid-19 crisis the Introduction day on August 27th 2020 for the new students of the Master Artificial Intelligence have been adjusted according to government policy and UvA policy. We can no longer proceed with our planned off campus social event for the Master AI on August 27th due to the updated Covid-19 regulations by the Dutch government. Unfortunately, this means the planned boat tour and visit to the Heineken Experience have been cancelled. We are now looking into an online social event for the afternoon instead.

For now the programme of the introduction day on August 27th will start in the morning with an online faculty introduction followed by online Master AI introduction and hopefully an online social event in the afternoon.

  • VU course and exam registration

As a UvA student you can choose one or two free-choice electives at the VU in one of the VU buildings on De Boelelaan in Amsterdam Buitenveldert. You have to be enrolled for these courses with a VU-net ID.

As soon as your registration at the UvA is completed and the tuition fee is paid you will receive a VU-net ID from the VU. The VU-net ID allows you to log in to the VU-net student portal  http://vunet.login.vu.nl/ where you can register for courses and examinations.  If you do not register on time you have to wait until the next regular teaching or examination opportunity, in most cases a year later. So it is very important that you register for courses and examinations in time.

  • Additional important information on restriction course registration courses MSc AI

Due to the large number of students who apply for admission to the master programme AI, the programme is forced to place some restrictions on several courses. The programme and the Graduate School of Informatics regret having to enforce these restrictions on courses, but lacks the facilities to admit all students from other programmes.

Limited capacity Master AI core courses

Please note that due to limited capacity of the core courses of the master programme AI, MSc AI students have priority for these courses.

Students of other GSI master programmes are allowed to register for this course, but please note that there is a limited number of places available. Students from the other GSI programmes can request registration for this course in datanose or by e-mail and will be put on a waiting list.

The core courses of the master programme AI are: Computer Vision 1, Machine Learning 1, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing 1, Fairness Accountability Confidentiality and Transparency in AI, Information Retrieval 1, Knowledge Representation and Reasoning.

Limited capacity Master AI restricted-choice electives

The restricted-choice electives from the master programme Artificial Intelligence are available to all students for registration, but please note that due to the limited capacity of these courses students of the master programme Artificial Intelligence have priority.

  • UvAnetID
