Step-by-step guide to course registration

Step 1: Enrol in your degree programme in Studielink

Use Studielink to request enrolment in an UvA degree programme. This requires a DigiD.* Once you have enroled via Studielink, it may take up to 48 hours before you can register for courses.

* If you apply for a DigiD or make any changes to it, you will receive an activation code within 5 days.

Step 2: Select your courses

Go to the Course Catalogue, find your degree programme and select the courses you want to follow.

Pre-Master's student: You register for courses listed in your acceptance letter.

Crash course (online and/or intensive) student:  You choose your Master's track during the course registration period. You will automatically be registered for the specific courses corresponding with the track. Registration for the online or intensive courses will be done by us.

New Master's student: You choose your Master's track, you will automatically be registered for the specific courses corresponding with the track.

Current master student: You choose two Master's electives.

Research Master's student: You will be registered for courses based on your individual study plan.

Step 3: Enter your chosen courses in the Planner

Go to, find your courses and click on ‘Add Course’.

Step 4: Check your timetable

Go to the Planner tab and view your course timetable under ‘Open timetable’. If you have registered for tutorials, make sure that there is no overlap in your timetable.

Step 5: Complete the course registration

Go to the Planner tab, check the boxes for the tutorials (WG) you wish to follow and click on 'Register' and then on ‘OK’.

Step 6: Check your registration

Go to the 'Overview of registrations’ tab and check your registrations.

You can cancel course registrations at Go to the ‘Overview of registrations’ tab, check the box next to the course you wish to cancel and click on 'Deregister' and then on ‘OK’.  You can only cancel courses up until the end of the first week after the start of the course.

Please note: it is important to deregister for courses you do not plan to follow. If you do not attend a course for which you registered, the result recorded for this course will be ‘NAP’ (the Dutch abbreviation for ‘non-attendance, counted as exam attempt’). Moreover, you will be preventing a fellow student from occupying your place in the course.
