Response to incomplete reporting by Folia on thesis supervisors for Political Science
On 25 April, weekly magazine Folia published a story on contracts that have been concluded with temporary thesis supervisors at the Political Science department. The University of Amsterdam wishes to correct a distorted perception that has arisen as a result of this story.

Student email on Google Apps
UvA student email on Google Apps became fully operational on Thursday, 19 April 2012. If you registered no later than 18 April 2012, you will retain your UvA student email address. If you activated your Google account between 6 March and 18 April, the UvA will have transferred the email in your old mailbox to your UvA Google Apps mailbox.

New student ID card
All enrolled and new students will receive a new student ID card in June. To receive a new ID card, students will first need to upload their passport photo via www.mijnuvapas.nl. The new student ID card, which is valid from 1 September 2012, will first need to be validated for use.

Student grants and loans may be abolished for Master’s programmes
Halbe Zijlstra, State Secretary of Education, Culture and Science in the Netherlands, submitted a legislative proposal in the Dutch Lower House concerning cuts to higher education on 19 January 2012. This proposal advocates the abolition of financial assistance for Master's degree students.

UvA celebrates 380th Dies Natalis
The University of Amsterdam (UvA) celebrated its 380th Dies Natalis (anniversary) on Friday, 6 January 2012. In the opening address, Rector Magnificus Prof. Dymph van den Boom spoke about promoting the distinctive features of Dutch universities. The philosopher Daniel Dennett then gave the Dies Natalis speech titled ‘Curiosity’.

CREA moves to Roeterseiland
